Parallels: Running Ubunto from External Drive

I was wondering if there was a way I could do this? I put the Ubunto ISO file on my external under an Ubuntu folder and then had parallels create the hard disk space to this path:

/Volumes/External Drive/Ubuntu/lin26.hdd

the only problem is when I try to start it I get this error:

Error occurred while saving VM configuration file. Please check that you have proper permissions to write to virtual machine home folder.

Any help would be appreciated thanks guys!

I just found this on the parallels forum. Theres a work around to get Ubunto to work, some also suggest using Fusion which is a competitor to parallels but still in beta.

Is there a way to do this with Powerbook G4?

I want to run ubuntu from my external drive that is connected through usb2.0.

If I was successful, what would happen if I booted without my external HD attached?
