panther download

I have just purchased an older imac dv 400 se and am currently running os 9.0. I borrowed an os-x cd from a buddy of mine but apparently I have to have os-x installed to use the cd. I have found panther for download but will it work? How should I go about burning it to cd or do I need to burn it to cd? I dont have a burner so I will have to use my windows machine to burn the info to disk. Should this work? Thanx
