My iMac G5 stopped working overnight. When I turned it on in the morning, the screen was flickering, loads of graphical artefacts such as random-coloured lines and pixels danced across the screen. Several times it wouldn't finish logging in.
After rebooting a few times I managed to enter my account. Got a kernel panic, which is just about the worst error a computer can get.
We cracked open the computer (with a screwdriver), and removed both RAM components in turn, but to no avail. If anything, it made it worse. Could it have been a problem with the VRAM? Well, when I was playing Black & White, and the graphics started screwing up, the sound did as well. Plus, when we turn on the computer, the disk spins up a bit, and then dies. The screen never turns on.
