I've got a Mac Mini, late 2012, 16gb RAM. 2.6GHz Quad-core Intel i7 processor, and I installed OS Catalina a few months ago. I had problems almost immediately, including kernel panics during sleep mode. I sent in the notices to Apple and after I began having problems with Office 365 (took multiple tries before Word and Excel would launch), notified MS too. No help from any. I tried dumping cached cookies, etc, which worked at first, but then went back to the same problems. I finally found a workaround. Close all programs at the end of the day except Word and Excel, and close all their open files after saving. It was more convenient having everything ready as soon as I unlocked the screen, but since the workaround avoids the problems, I'm okay. The alternative was to wipe my disk and reinstall the OS I had before, Mojave I think. Whichever it was, it was the latest one before Catalina. It worked great for me; now I wish I'd never installed Catalina. But having never had problems such as these, I somehow thought that Apple was different, more reliable than Microsoft. Live and learn...
