Due to a problem I have with iPhoto, it was recommend that I upgrade both my OS and iPhoto.

What sequence of steps should be used for the upgrade?

Background: iMac (purchased in April, 2010 - shows as Late 2009 in ‘About This Mac’ ), OS 10.9.5, iPhoto 8.1.2, Canon related software (for scanner LiDE 210, for photo processing (Digital Photo Professional)), HP related software (for printer/scanner), etc. Looking at ‘More Info…’ under ‘About This Mac’ and then ’System Report…’, most of the software/applications under ‘Obtained from’ shows ‘Apple’, with some as ‘Unknown’ and fewer as ‘Identified Developer’ or ‘Mac App Store’.

What’s the sequence of steps? I will have 2 Time Machine backups each on separate external disks.
Is there any cleanup (removal of software) prior to the upgrade?
Is the OS upgraded first than the applications iPhoto and others or applications first then OS?
Are there any follow-up tasks?

Thanks…

Only thing not covered is adequate memory. Suggest at least 8GB, and the 21.5" model can handle 16GB and the 27" 32GB. Download and then update to OS X.10.2 and use Migration Assistant. Phot, the replacement for iPhoto, is available as a Beta download.

The applications all come together as part of the download.
