Hi, does anybody know if i was to buy an IMac 21.5 entry level computer that was released 20th April 2014, would i be able to download Yosemite and use it as the operating system or would i run into problems, ive seen this question asked in other forums but the answer wasn't explained very clearly. Thanks.

Any Mac released in April 2014 will have the specs to run Yosemite. How much memory does this Mac have installed? Yosemite will run with 4 GB of ram (Apple says 2 GB minimum I think). Most of us prefer to run it with 8 GB.

this is the Mac, its had 8GB of memory, as i lsay it is the entry model but its all i need at the moment, would Yosemite install straight to this Mac, as i have seen people saying in other forums, you need to buy Snow leopard, to install Yosemite, Thanks for the response :)

Correct. Because Yosemite is only available in the Mac App Store, you will need to install Snow Leopard (10.6) prior to installing Yosemite.

That is what i would have though but in the product description it states that it only has tiger 10.4, so im contemplating paying more and getting it from apple, or buying it cheaper from amazon, but possibly not getting what i want

Ah. I see.

Just so you know, Snow Leopard (10.6) cannot be downloaded legally, from my understanding. It is available as a hard copy in Apple's Online Store for £14 ($19.99 in the US). :)

I would be asking some questions about the OS that's installed. I'm trying to pin down which OS it shipped with but it should be new enough to have shipped with something higher than what's in the specs.

If it is higher than 10.6.8 you can go straight to Yosemite via the App store. If not then you will need to purchase a copy of 10.6 first.

That is what I thought, too. However, when I checked the link loveday posted, it shows it has Tiger installed: Apple iMac 21.5 inch (Intel 1.4GHz, 8GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Intel HD GBR, Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger): Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

I still think it is quite odd for something like that to happen. Maybe the picture is inaccurate, and it may be a 2007 iMac. Who knows...

Update: I checked the website and saw that it actually comes with Mavericks (10.9) from a reviewer. The person may be wrong, but many people have up-voted this post.

OS Mavericks, excellent delivery, outstanding price, no hassles.

Amazon Verified Purchase

Delivery was the following day. Very straightforward buying experience. Excellent communication on delivery throughout.

The product came preloaded with OS Mavericks. I easily upgraded to Yosemite.

It is an UK model with UK plug, wireless keyboard and magic mouse in a sealed box.

I feel there is no point in commenting on the actual item, as that has been done better elsewhere. (I would never want to use Windows again having said that.)

The same product was £899 at Currys / PC World. I saved £160.

Highly recommended.

That would make more sense. Systems with that new a processor shouldn't have had Tiger installed. With Mavericks installed the update should be easy. Make sure that you log into the Mac App Store with your account.

Agreed Amazon made an error, Tiger would not install on a machine that new.

To be honest, for an extra 65 quid, I'd just get it directly from Apple ...

Thanks. At some point in the past I've had both of those bookmarks. I discovered a few months ago that I lost a bunch of bookmarks that were in folders in the Safari Bookmark menu. I think they borked up when syncing with the iPad and that then transferred over to the Mac.

Not sure what started the problem though.

Thanks for the hint, as some of my iMac Safari bookmarks disappeared from my Favorites Bar a few days ago, including everymac.com that I use almost daily and I couldn't figure out why.

Maybe my iPad 2 did some syncing I didn't need done, so I'll have to do some checking. But I din't think that any sync would be dumb enough to remove stuff I need. Oppps, oh right, I just remembered that Jony Ive is now in control of our software and what it does. Gotta keep it all thin and get rid of any bulk!!! :( :( :D

I'm a little shocked that it took more than a dozen posts before someone finally noted that it would be utterly and completely impossible for a 2014 iMac to come with, or run, 10.4.x.
