Opinion about sick iMac

Hi

I rescued 3 iMacs. One works fine the other 2's have a cold.

The one I would need an opinion on is a slotmounted 333mhz iMac.
The issue I am having is that once I plug in the power and power it up
it within 1 second powers down again. All I can see is a short flicker on
the screen. Now I did some research and somebody said it is most likely
the fallback transformer.

Are there any test's I can do to see if it is really the fallback transformer.
Unplug the monitor part? or such?

Well the other iMac has red lines running true the picture and when it
gets powered down there is a red dot in the center. I will use that one
as parts probably.

I would think the transformer needs to be removed and tested

Do you mean the FLYBACK transformer? If you suspect that it is faulty, unless you are very confident dealing with extreme high voltage, take it to someone who is and have them test it for you. You might even be able to have it tested at your local TV repair shop.

Could I unplug the monitor somehow and see if it stays on a bit longer. Then I guess I would know if it's the flyback transformer. I am a bit confident with electronics just scared of tubes due to high voltage. :)

Thanks for your input.
