If it were me... Ditch the CD, just plug the iMac directly into the Router, which is connected to the modem, which is connected to the cable or dsl outlet on the wall.

Then, open Safari... in the url field type 192.168.1.1 You will now be in your Router's Set-Up page... Set it as needed... Unplug from iMac... and Viola! Wireless!

Yeah... I'm not certain what the default IP is on Belkin... it should be printed on the router somewhere... do you see it anywhere???

192.168.1.1 is the default for "most" routers... Linksys, Netgear, etc... I assumed it would be for Belkin as well.

It looks difficult... but it's not...

You do have a wired connection to the web correct??? Meaning you CAN access the web while WIRED right???

Just go into something like "Wireless Settings" or Wireless Set-up" or maybe "Basic Settings"...

Try here - it's the user guide download page for a Belkin wireless router. It might not be your product, but the web interface can't be that much different.

You're looking for a Wireless Setup link, or possibly Advanced Setup which my BT router has.

Also, can you perhaps post a screencap of the page, so we can see it?

You don't need to mess with 95% of the settings you are seeing available.

Go into "Wireless Settings"... Name your Network in the "SSID" field.

Select WPA as the "Security" or "Encryption"... Make a Passphrase (password)... remember it.

Unplug... click the AirPort icon in the top Right of the iMac Menu Bar... Click the Network you named...

It will ask for the password.... enter it... Check the box that says "Remeber password in Keychain"...

Looking at my Belkin router's status page; there's a "set-up wizard" that should take you through things (if it asks for anything you don't know, try asking your ISP).

Here's how mine's set up:

Note; I wouldn't advise using WEP, I only use it so my Nintendo DS can connect.

Also, I've never had a problem with .osx files; I've no idea why they won't open for you.

What is the IP address of your PC? It needs to be 192.168.x.x where x is a value so that you are on the same subnet as the router.

Turn everything off and on again. Also open Terminal and type [ping 192.168.2.1] (without the brackets) and see if you get a reply from the router. Ctrl+C to stop it.

Did you forget to type "ping" (without the quotes)???
Like so:

ping 192.168.2.1

Pull the power to the router for 5 seconds and plug it back in. See if it then comes up. Did you change any settings?
