Clicking abort or install fails to identify the application concerned but the system does then shut down. Has been doing this on Mavericks for the past month. The thread below contains some suggestions. I suspect it may be adware but every suggestion to cure the problem seems to be countered by someone else with a warning or alternative. Has anyone else experienced or cured this? Thanks.

Eventually cured the problem with AdwareMedic. Free but it deserves a donation for extreme simplicity and efficiency.

Glad you got that sorted out. Any idea what adware was causing the problem?

BTW If you keep solving your own problems this may become a trend. This might not be good as it will force the rest of us to actually talk to real live people.:)

adwaremedic

Thank you for your posting. I downloaded and ran AdwareMedic, deleted the files that it recommended (most had "genio" somewhere in the file string); and my laptop shutdown normally for the first time in quite awhile. I started having the problem after I mistakenly clicked on some software that (among other things) was changing my browser settings to use bing instead of google. Thank you again for your posting.
