i uninstalled what ever anti virus program i had on my iBook. then i added Virex. i did the scan and it came up with a bunch of probably bad java scripts that it could not delete. so i deleteed them and ran teh scan on the main fold that the files were contained. i had sent a print file from Virex to PDF. when i had opend the pdf, adobe said there was an update for acrobat reader. so i dl'ed it. Now, my iBook will not get past the part where it say Logon Screen Starting. Please help me. what i want to do is delete teh Virex and Acrobat reader. I read somewhere how to open the firmware, which i did to get a cd out of the iBook. Can i do it from there? I tried to startup with the utilities disk but there is not a hardware problem. Thanks in advance.

Hmmm, viruses on the Mac. Sounds like Virex has deleted something important. Why are you running virus programs, Macs are virus free ?

Anyway, Have you tried putting the install CD in and starting up with the 'c' button pressed in ? I should think a re-install is your best option. :bomb:

Well, if you do a re-install then your files should still be on the HD.

Have you got an external HD ? I'm not sure if your version of ibook can boot into OS9 but that maybe an option if you want to save some stuff, just use the OS9 install CD to change the start up disk to OS9.

Have you tried booting the system in safe mode by booting with the shift key held down ?

Interesting problem...

If there are no viruses for Mac, what is Virex scanning for?

it had found some suspect java apps. maybe it was searching for pc viruses.

so after the reinstall archive, the logon screen did not have the pictures associated with the user's name.

the admin desktop image was set to the default "blue screen of life" while the non admin was the image that was there already.

that is all i can tell that has changed, other than having to do all the updates from 10.3.5 all the way up.

Might be a good idea to check with the vendors of all software before installing it on Tiger. Virex ~ last heard didn't work and is no longer available with .Mac. crashing Safari is the usual problem with it.
