On most old laptops I can think of there has always been a button (F6 or F7 I think) to push when you plug in a monitor to your laptop that switches between the mirror screens and double screens. On the newest macbooks that disappeared.

Does anyone know if there is a shortcut with the new keyboards or anyway to set it up? Really handy feature which now takes me a million steps to change.

Thanks for any help ahead of time!

I too wish Apple had provided a way using F keys to switch between internal and external displays. No keyboard shortcut that I know of. However, if you use Boot Camp to run Windows XP or Vista, the latest Intel graphic drivers for the GMA X3100 chipset provides a way to switch.

Regards.

When I plug in a monitor I can still switch between the two modes but I need to go to System Prefs - Displays - etc before I can switch. So it does work for me, but there is no shortcut by the looks of it.
