I just had my MacBookPro reinstalled with an OS 10.8.5. I previously had Office:Mac 2004 and want to reinstall. It says I cannot open "office setup assistant" because PowerPC applications are no longer supported. How can I get this Office:Mac disk loaded?

With OS X 10.8 you will need to upgrade to a newer version of MS Office.
Office 2004 is not compatible with OS X 10.7 and above. It is designed to run on PPC processors only and will not run on Intel processors unless you are running OS X 10.6.8 or earlier which was the last version of OS X that offered Rosetta which was an emulation layer to run older PPC apps.

If you can hold off a while, a whole new version for Mac will be released in the second half of this year. I have read where it will be called Office 16 for Mac...I am not 100% sure about the name.

Not Office 16, it's called Office 2015 and the public preview for it is now available for download from Microsoft. I'm downloading it right now.

Not to be pedantic, it's called Office 2016 For Mac.
I've been playing with it since last night, and it's actually pretty nice.

Member "caribiner23" is correct. It "was" known as Office 2015 until Microsoft delayed its deployment to later this year, hence the new name: Office 2016. The Preview installs each application (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, OneNote, and Outlook) but doesn't really say much more than that. All in all, it looks pretty good so far.

The preview borrowed heavily from the iPad versions of Office, which I thought were really pretty good. The new Office for Mac doesn't have quite all the features of the current Office for windows, but it comes pretty close.
