The newer model will have an update processor generation, like gen 2 vs gen 5, or something. The 5 year old model will be slower, unless one is a dual core versus a quad core. Also, the 4gb ram will most likely be upgradeable to 16gb while the newer 2016 machine will have the RAM soldered in place and not upgradeable.

The "devil is in the details".

2011 Macbook Pro
2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 with 4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3

Technically…there are two computers that match the info given.

2016 Pro 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5 with 8 GB RAM

Technically there are no 2016 "Pro's" yet.:)

You mentioned a "2016 Pro 2.7ghz". I'm assuming you mean "MacBook Pro" (just like above with the 2011 MacBook Pro). "Pro" is not a good way to describe things.:)

There's approximately 4 years difference between these two computers…which newer computer's are almost always faster than older computers (year to year)…especially the same model line (MacBook Pro). When there's 4 years difference. Almost guaranteed that the 2015 model is faster.:)

But in this situation it's not that easy. Firstly…the 2011 computer you listed has either a 15" or 17" display. The 2015 computer you listed only has a 13" display.

So the first thing we need to know is…are you aware of this display size difference? And second…is this important to you?
