No sound when exporting with Quicktime Pro?

I'm attempting to convert a 45Mb mpg into something a little smaller to be able to email. It seems that no matter what format I try to export it to, the audio is completely lost. I'm not experienced with video, any ideas?

Update:

I was able to extract the audio and video into two files. Now I need to figure out how to combine them again in quicktime.

Try and use FFmpegX there is a demuxing tool the works like a charm.

so, dumb question, but what is demuxing?

I see it all the time, not a clue what it means, it's about time i learned.

mpg clips have the audio and video on the same track demuxing splits them

I finally figured it out. After using streamclip, I was able to split the video from the audio and then add the audio back into the video via quicktime pro.
