i am new to this mac thing, so be gentle..

i have a macbook black.
on start up, it beeps three times then stays running, but there is no desk top and no keys or the mouse pad appear to do anything.

the only button that does anything is the power button which switches the mac off instantly without any log off process.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Your Mac's Specs
3G Black Macbook 2.16ghz, 2gb, 160gb
errrm, can you elaborate....does the screen appear at all?

i mean, does the apple symbol come up?

the beeps are likely code beeps....something is wrong with your macbook, the beeps are its language

after you elaborate on your problem we can help you out some more

do you get any screen output at all? or a black screen

what did you do to it prior this occurence?

how old is it?

what spec is it exactly?

Welcome to Mac-Forums, pogo6636.

Run down for us your MB's specs as was asked by pirate pete so we can see further into your problem. What is the OS version (not Tiger but for example 10.4.3)?

You could for now try Resetting MacBook and MacBook Pro System Management Controller (SMC) and Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM.

I would also like to know if you have changed anything right before the problems started. Did you add any new RAM? Did you add a peripheral? Did you install any new software?
