No Access Permissions - Win2K Server

hope someone has had an issue similar to this before.

I am running some OSX machines connecting to my Windows 2000 Server. We have some file on the server which we need to archive and have been trying to copy these files from the server on to the local hard drive.

When trying to copy these files an error comes up "You may need to enter the name and password for an administrator on this computer to change the item named "filename.jpg"

If I then click Continue it asks me for a name and password. Even if I type in an administrator name and password the file does not copy to my local drive.

I have checked the windows permissions and they are fine as I can copy and edit the rest of the files in that folder.
I can also do anything with the file on a PC without any problems.

I have done an <apple><i> on the file and checked the Ownership and Permissions section and the details say that I have no access, the Owner is "Administrators" with "No Access" and the Group is "Domain Users" with "No Access", Others is also "No Access". I cannot change any of these permissions no matter what user I am logged on as on the Network or the local machine.

No matter what I try I cannot get the file to change what looks like local permissions. The only way to get it to work is to open the file on a PC and to resave it. Now obviously I cant do this on every file that has a problem cos it would take me months to find them all as I am trying to archive 200Gb worth of data in about 2000 folders and there is about 1 file randomly with this problem in each folder.

Any ideas?

I can give more information if required.

I have now worked out with a little help from someone else that the files are fine if I connect to the server using smb rather than afp.

The problem I have now is that the resource forks of the files dont seem to be working.

When I log in under afp, each file is associated with an application ie Photoshop, Illustrator and Quark.

When I log in under smb, the association to the applications is lost and they show up as Terminal Windows in the case of Quark and Preview files in the case of Photoshop and Illustrator.

Any ideas?

Thanks
