I have a nice Logitech USB mouse (multi-button). Will it work with my (as yet unpurchased) Macbook Pro?

Yes, is the short answer.

I have a Logitech bluetooth mouse and the buttons work fine. You may want to double-check that the model you have is supported, but at worst case you may find that some buttons don't work.

If you like Logitech's software, go for it. Personally I would use USB Overdrive or Steermouse to get functionality from the extra buttons.
