I have only had my MBP for about 5 wks and when I started up OnyX it told me I need to reboot my mac and insert the install disk and repair my volume.

Is it easy to do this? What caused the volume to do what it did?

I went to disk util and ran the verify permissions and volume.

Under the verify permissions, it says supposed be be "0" user "501". Do I need to repair permissions?

Disk Utility also says volume needs minor repair.

go ahead and repair permissions and repair volume from disk utility. It sounds like all you did was verify, they still need to be repaired

I will repair once my backup gets done.

Will I run in to any problems with repairing the volume?

The repair went well. Hopefully it worked.

What causes the volume errors?

eric,

I am a new Mac user, I have the Black Macbook, and I just encountered the same errors with Onyx. Thanks to Brown Study's I booted the system holding down Cmd S.

then typed in fsck -fy Including the space.

and it went throught some repair action there for a couple of minutes. I booted back and ran Disk Utility and all is well no more errors. Disk Utility did show error before this little stunt. and Now NO ERRORS

Horrray.
