Hi, new user here. I fiinallly made the switch from the dreaded PC's. My question is in regards to removing programs. On the PC there was a feature "ADD-REMOVE PROGRAMS" and it did as such. I see on the mac when you want to remove a program you drag it to the trash. However, will this method remove everything the program installed or is there another way I must do this. Thank you to all who can help me.

The drag to trash in Mac is superb. The reason that add/remove thing in dozbloz is because of the very same inter app connectivity that was supposed to make doz a simple lamp on clap off easy to use... what crap Bottom line is drag to trash works fine -Along with, repair permissions. (about every 2 weeks, and after every software update) close all apps and log totally off. Log on, go in Finder, Applications. Utilities, Disk Utility. After the message -getting disk information- select volume (below the hard drive name -upper left corner. Just highlight it. Now look to the lower two things are there near the middle, varify permissions, repair permissions. Click repair permissions. Also make sure you run cron tasks Finder, Applications. Utilities Terminal type (switching to root - superuser) sudo sh /etc/daily > this needs to be done /weekly (instead of dailly) and monthly. again with all apps closed.

It will remove most of the files associated with the application. If you want to be really tidy, you can delete the preference files, found in HD : Library : Application Support (sometimes also preferences) and user : library.

How do you log in as SU? It asks for my password but it doesn't work. When I try to manually run the command listed above, it is a lot of Permission denieds.

GLJones, download an application like MacJanitor - it's much easier and quicker to use than typing in commands to terminal every now and again, and it does the same thing.

The command sudo sh etc/daily should promt you for your admin password and then execute. But you can also:
enable the root user:
Open NetInfo Manager, located in Applications > Utilities.
Choose Security > Enable Root User and type a password for the root account. You may need to type an administrator password to make these changes.
Choose Apple menu > Log Out.
Choose Other in the Login window, type root in the Name field, and the root password in the Password field. Never be on line as root!
