New to Mac

I have just received a MAC computer (used) and I also received MAC OS 8.5 with this. How do I install this? I put the disk in the cd-rom and nothing happens. I am a wiz at windows but this is from another planet. I also tried one of my Linux bootable OS cds but again nothing. Do I need something else. Please help!:eek: :(

New to MAC

The Mac is as follows; Apple Computer Power PC PowerMac G3 Blue & White 300MHZ . The linux I have tried are Ubunto, Xndroes, SuSe, Mandrake, Simply Mephis, Linspire, Knoppix. I also have MAC OS 8.5. I can get none of these to even boot. What am I doing wrong:(
