Looks like your only option is to find the correct installation disc (via eBay or a friend) or get a retail copy of Tiger, either online or at the Apple Store.

If you're a student, you qualify for the student discount, which means you can get a retail copy of Tiger for around $69. Again, if you're a student, check to see whether your university offers it for cheaper.

The only thing that would prevent you from installing a retail copy would be faulty hardware.

Hardware that you could test if you had your restore disks as it contains Apple's Hardware Test on them. ;)

Welcome to Mac-Forums, lxr109.

We can never stress this enough: always keep your restore disks in a safe place because they are very very very useful (as you now know yourself at this point).

And never EVER buy a Mac that isn't sold with the restore disks, no matter the bargain: because in case of a reinstall, you will need to buy the full retail install disk for OS X, iLife and iWork. That raises the real price of the purchase quite a bit...

Aren't the retail ones PowerPC only?

Your Mac is a Macbook correct? Macbooks use Intel CPU's. The Boxed version of OSX sold in stores that costs $129 is for Power PC Macs only and will not boot nor install on an Intel Mac. I wish I would have seen this thread sooner.

Where did you purchase this Macbook? Are you sure this is a Macbook and not a Powerbook? Just trying to help/

What you purchased was a Black Box that says OSX Tiger on it correct? A DVD inside the box?

http://www.apple.com/macosx/techspecs/

Read the system requirements.

You need a Install DVD for you Macbook. I am shocked the dood at the Apple Store would not know that. What does it say on the Box the OS came in about hardware? It should say on the side of the box.

Take it back and do raise the roof. Is this a real Apple Store? If so they should have known. Where did you get the Macbook? Used? Sad you were not given the DVD's. If this is a REAL Apple Store, take in the Macbook and tell them it's missing the install DVD's and you need them.

Trav, are you telling me that they still haven't made a Tiger full install in Universal yet? That's totally nuts!

Looks like you'll have to ask for a restore disk replacement instead, lxr109! The good side is you'll be getting back your bundled software install disk and I do believe the replacement disk costs less than the Tiger full install. I tried searching for it at Apple's website but couldn't find anything to back this up.

The only info I could find was the Mac OS X build versions that shipped with Intel-based Macs.

That is what it seems to say on both places on Apples page and store. I was hoping I was wrong but fear I am not. That also explains the DVD not even booting in his Intel Mac.

Jeez! What are they thinking? Major booboo!

What I was told a while back is all Intel Macs come with the OS and need no upgrade to Tiger and that Leopard would be the first to be universal. Makes some sense but does not help our poor OP!! I hope they do right by him. I can't believe they did not catch that. It says right on the side of the Tiger Box what hardware it will install on. The OP looked.

Good luck! Let us know what happens.

I was at my local Mac store and saw Boxed copies of Tiger. If I would have seen this message first, I would have checked the box and asked the tech there. I was there to check out the new iMac. LOVED IT. Amazing machine. Buttery smooth and screen to ME is amazing. Liked the new keyboard enough I think I will purchase one next month.

I second that. Totally agree.
The first thing I've done after switching to Mac was buy myself a Dual Layer DVD and make a copy of my Install DVD. The copy is being used frequently and the original is stored away safely;-)

We both have the same despicable keyboard. LOL

That's why I'm interested in seeing this one in person to test it out. :D

And yes, good luck, lxr109! Keep us posted please!
