Does anyone know of any utilities for basic maintenance or cleaning up temp files, etc.? If this is a lame-dummy question, please just let me know. I am a Windows system admin & am coming at this from that perspective. If it is not needed on a Mac, that works for me too. Thanks for your help.

First of all, welcome to the family!

Second of all, Onyx will take care of all your worries. It will clean out all of the caches and perform general maintenance. There's great documentation out there, and it's super easy to use.

It generally isn't needed but if you must do it Onyx is a great utility. I'm a Windows admin as well and I find that my Mac is literally maintenance free.

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
Just remember, you should only really use it maybe every 2-3 months or so if things get a little sluggish, and if you do, best to stick with the automation tab unless there are specific tasks which you are intending on carrying out.
I usually only use it when I have made major changes or installed updates, in which I may want my disk permissions repaired and my caches cleaned out.

To be honest, I downloaded Onyx but I never use it. Maybe I'm just a very light user though. I download a lot of stuff and view a lot of web pages, but I haven't experienced any slow downs.
