welcome!

check out split & concat or unrarx for the archiving/unarchiving rar files.

you can use ms word on a mac, ms does make a version. though you can also use neooffice, which is a free and is compatable with many office file types.

as for the blogging and web stuff, someone else will surely have ideas.

good luck with your new macbook pro!

Congrats on the purchase, and welcome. I love my 17" MBP, and I'm sure you'll love yours, too!

make sure to check the Mac-Forums Switchers FAQ and Information! lots of good info!

don't worry about being too lost. most of us were there too, and now we're here, with road maps, flashlights, compasses [sp?], etc to help!

Hey! Welcome here, maclady! And welcome to the Mac!

For word processors, you might want to look up AbiWord or even NeoOffice (which includes word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and drawing programs).

A big welcome! I use iWork (no spreadsheet) and love it. Might have a spreadsheet with the 2007 release. You might like the switchers book The Missing Manual. They are available in bookstores or on eBay. Be sure to get one for switchers and Tiger edition.

For desktop blogging software, I use ecto. It costs $17.95, but comes with a trial version for you to check it out first. As for zipping files, this is built-in. Simply right click on a file or folder and you will get see a dialog that says "Create Archive of X," with X being what ever you right clicked.

WOW, thats one nice machine that you bought!

Here's a list of the software that I use, most of which is free.

As far as blogging goes, I've heard that ecto is pretty nice, but their website seems to be down. Try it again in a few hours.
