I am getting ready to buy a new computer and have settled on the macbook pro. In looking at the options there are two processor selections, the 2.26 and the 2.53, what are the main differences?

You won't even notice the difference if you are a light to medium user. The 2.53 is just a little bit faster.

However, I strongly suggest you wait until this coming tuesday (April 13th) to buy your laptop. There is a very good chance that apple with be releasing their new MBP's.

If you are asking about the computer as a whole then besides the processor speed difference it looks like you get more RAM and a larger hard drive as default with the 2.53.

That's not really an important difference because you can choose to have more RAM and a bigger hard drive on the 2.26 also. You just can't downgrade the 2.53 laptop to make it cheaper. As mentioned unless you use your computer intensively you will probably not notice much of a difference between the 2.26 and 2.53 processor. If you do then you might benefit from the 2.53.
