Hello everyone!

I have been heavily involved with photography going on two years now.

So, I put the PC in the closet, and bought myself a 27inch Mac!
GLAD I did!!!

It's a fantastic machine!
(pardon the very temporary "desk" while I wait for the new one to come in!)

Anyone have any pressing tips for a first time Mac user?

Thanks!

As for the tips, just the random stuff a life time PC user may need to know. Like, while I was uploading Adobe Lightroom 3, I clicked "download" and waited for like ten minutes for something to pop up, then I noticed the finished file up at the tippy top right corner waiting to be clicked! lol

I guess my first question, is there a free "lite" microsoft office reader so I can open/write word documents? or do I have to buy MS office for Mac?

I like Bean: Bean: An OS X Word Processor

Or NeoOffice gives you more options, but is a little too overpowered for my needs: NeoOffice Home

Welcome!!
First tip: this isn't Windows.
You don't need CCleaner, or a registry cleaner or a defragger or lots of other things like that.
Also: closing the window with the red button DOESN"T quit the program! (usually)
+1 on going to the switcher section here.

Welcome!

You could also give Pages a try, believe it's $15 on the Mac APP Store, which is a real bargain.

Also, before popping for a lot of new software be sure to give a thorough trial of what came with your system. Preview, in particular, is an often overlooked gem with a lot of capabilities.

Hello and well done! If you are into graphics and photography then invest in a Magic Trackpad whilst your wallet is still warm..it is awesome.
