Brand new Studio, running Ventura, will not recognize USB hubs. I started with a J5Create and when it wasn't recognized I contacted the company. The rep had me try a few things, but nothing worked.

I took that back and got a NXT. It wouldn't be recognized, either.

So, I've got a new computer that won't recognize externals that I need for work.

We bought this computer because it is supposed to be amazing for graphics work, and we were told that we could use a USB hub. Neither the front-facing Thunderbolt ports don't work, nor do the back two USB-A ports.

Before I take THIS one back, is there something else I should try? I'm used to just plugging things in, and the Macs see them.

Have you talked to Apple about it? If the Studio is new, they should be responsive.

Does anything work in the USB port(s)?

Are the hubs powered? Are they plugged into power?

I don't have a Studio, but my M1 MBP has USBc ports and I have two different hubs connected and it works perfectly.

Finally, to do an SMC reset, power down the Studio, unplug it from the mains power, unplug all externals from it, wait 30 seconds, then plug the externals back in and power up the Studio. That sequence will reset the SMC in the Studio.

I've only used the two back USB ports, and both work.

The hubs are powered by the computer.

I'll try the SMC reset. I'm not hopeful, though. Guess I'll have to make a call to tech support. :(

99% sure that is the issue. Get powered hubs with their own power supply.

As Jake says as well as the support pages:

As their support site say:
Includes AC power adapter...
No code has to be inserted here.

If you are using high-powered USB™ devices, attach the USB-C® power adapter to the power delivery port to ensure maximum performance. When using your USB-C® power adapter, the multi-adapter powers both the adapter (with attached peripherals) and your laptop
