New Mac, New Questions

Hey guys. Not sure if this is the right place to ask this but here goes. I know its a mac thing, but how come whenever I download programs such as Azureus and Firefox they are created as seperate volumes? Why dont they just go into my applications and be done with it.

Any help would be great. Thanks in advance,

The short answer is unless you have an installer program that's the way it is. That is a wonderful tutorial that Jack linked to. Take a look at Disk Inventory X which gives you a nice picture view of your hard drive. It is much neater than on a PC.
