Guess I'm going to have to get a new keyboard for my late 2012 Macbook Pro. Looked online but I'm not sure what to get. They all look the same and look like my keyboard w/ the off set power button, Is there a specific model that I should look for? and how do I find what model number I need

Well, go to the Apple (left upper corner) - select About This Mac -> More info... -> System Report; the top display will provide you the needed information (see the attachment for my MBPro).

But just curious why a 2 y/o laptop needs a keyboard replacement? Did you have a liquid spill and/or other damage? A liquid spill will likely do damage beyond just the KB which would require a professional assessment? If so, you might want to look at the official thread here on Liquid Spills - good luck. Dave :).

Thanks for the advice. nope didn't spill anything on it. Sort of had trouble with it shutting down by itself for a while then one day it wouldn't start at all. Tore it all apart and when I disconnect the keyboard it starts up. So I figure it is a short in the keyboard or the power button. Runs fine now, no shut downs..just need to use an external keyboard at the moment.

Thanks for the additional information - kind of weird and hope that all goes well. Dave :)
