I bought an iPhone 3G S 16Gb in 31st of March 2010( first time with iPhone), so far so good until a week ago, when I tried to make a call, by dialing a number and tap Speaker, and in instant I got kick out the calling and the springboard completely dark, then I had to push the home button, and make a same call again, this time is work like normal.

Yesterday, it happened the same issue and not only that, my iPhone was not auto-lock itself like it should be, I always set 1 min to lock the phone. I tried after 5, 10, 20 mins, it was also not auto lock( Yes, I checked it and set 1 min). It is quite annoy because this is new phone and working flawless for first couple of days.

I decided to reset by pressing power button and home button( like many tutorials advise), it did not help then I tried restore to factory setting, after that it was working fine again until now. As the first time iPhone user, I don't know if this is a "big" problem, if these issues happened again, should I bring it to the store where I bought and require a replace? Or just do Restore to factory setting like I did?

Any advices would be appriciated. Thank you

If it continues to act up you might try restoring it to factory. This will reload the OS and it does sound like you are having issues with the OS.

Did you download an app recently sometimes or it has happened in the past an app was
giving me trouble after removing it all was well. Other than that may want to visit an Apple Store and have them look at it.

Thanks all the replies so far, and for 2 days now, I found out something like buggy of my new iPhone

1. When I was in my friend's home, I could not connect my iPhone to his wireless. To be clear, I am the one set up his router and I don't set Mac filter. His wireless use WPA2 for security not Web( at home my iPhone working fine with my wifi with Web security). It keeps saying could not connect to "ABC" network, Yes I did type correct password. Then I tried on my old iPodtouch 1G , it connected instant! and also it works on any laptops connect to his wifi.

I did try reset my iPhone, it does not help, and saw an advice from apple forum said I tried go to Setting>> General>> Reset>> Reset Network Settings. And the iPhone does the reseting and after the iphone start up, it connect to the wifi automatically ( I supposed I have to do manual like choose his wifi and type the password??), well even through it can connect to the wifi now, but i am feeling weird and confuse why my iPhone is able to connect to his wifi automatically? I think the iPhone itself can not save the info of the wifi after I did reset network setting?

2. Some of the free apps I downloaded from apple store when I run on my iPhone, it is automatically kicked out :S . I don't know if this is because of the app itself got bugs or my iPhone got bugs. I have never ever seen this problem during the time I used my old iPod touch since 2007.

After I got bunch of troubles with almost brand new phone ( 3 weeks old) I just want to send it back to the store. To be honest, they will jail my phone for at least 2 weeks ( like they said working routine to fix my phone) and if I send the phone to fix, if they send it back again and said nothing wrong? Coz the problems is occurred randomly.

So you guys please give me some advices what should I do now, keep staying with a buggy phone or give it to repair, and ofc I have no phone to use during the time they repair?

I am appreciated for any advices. Thank you

You sound like you are tech savvy so if you are still having problems, make an appointment with an apple store and take it in.

If you haven't done a full restore though, I would give that a shot. This reinstalls the OS.
