Hello.
I think I want to purchase a 24" iMac, but they have been around for a while now and I am worried I am going to buy one, right at the time a new iMac is released. How much longer do you think these G5 iMacs are going to be around? Is it worth getting one? I realise computers are constantly changing etc, but it's nice to get a product that you know is going to hold its value for a little bit longer.

Cheers.

the G5 iMacs were 2 generations ago. The new ones are Intel Core 2 Duo. I dont think they will come out with another new iMac for awhile

There are rumors that we might get a somewhat slimmer model in the next couple of months, but like all Apple rumors go, we won't know for sure until the day it's released.

You have to keep in mind that there will always be a new model around the corner. That's just how technology works.

Fortunately, you don't have to worry about being one of those sorry chaps who bought a G5 iMac only to have Apple release the Intel version a month later. Any Core2Duo iMac you buy now will last you quite a while and you'll be more than happy with it. :black:

Your G5 is fine, Apple will support PPC chip certainly in the life-time of your computer. I still use G4 PB and plan to for at least another year.

The next iMac could arrive tomorrow, or in a year's time.

Apple usually announce new models out of the blue.

I agree with CASH as soon as you buy it will start to be "out of date" so why wait. If you can afford it buy it and enjoy the experience!

iMacs had G5 processors before January 2006, after which they were replaced by Intel Core Duo processors. In September 2006 they were replaced by the Core 2 Duo processor.

So if you've only just bought it and it's new, there's no chance it will be a G5.

mine has an intel core duo processor. I bought it refurbished through the apple store...but the outside of the box they shipped it in, says imac g5 on a white sticker..
