I have just upgraded to the new iMac 24" and I would like some advice on hubs to connect my old USB a and dongles to the new Mac as there are only two ports on the rear of it.

Apple makes a USBc to USB-A adapter to connect, then you can use any USB-A hub (using one with a separate power supply is best) to attach multiple devices to that. You can also look at Hyper and Anker for connectors and hubs, both make good products.

There are also many USB hubs that have USB-C connectors on them so no need for an adapter.

I would recommend a reputable brand like the ones Jake suggested and do your search based on your budget and how many devices you want to support.

Also make sure to look for a powered hub.

Yes, there are. I use the ratings/reviews of products and if I start seeing a repeat "offender" on the list, that tells me that enough people like it and I'm willing to try it.

A search for "Best USB hub for Mac" yields the following top 4 results.

Read those and others and see what fits your need/budget.

Randy, that second one is USB-A only, as far as I can tell. The new iMac has USB-C ports. Your first suggestion would work, or if he needs more ports, he could get the converter I suggested AND the second one on your post and have a lot of USB-A ports available.

Yes, I screwed up on that one. Chipsets for USB-C hubs only allow them to be spit into up to three USB 3.0 ports. There are hubs that provide more than three USB 3.0 ports, because they use more than one chipset, but these can get very expensive.

USB hubs aren't daisy-chain-able, unless you are connecting to a Thunderbolt port.

I use the Apple USB-c to USB-A adapter, then have an Anker 7 port powered hub plugged into that and it works well for me. That is why I suggested it as an option.

I still use one of these 7 port hub. It is a terrific product, however, it is only USB 2.0. It is full powered that makes it a great charging HUB. I used it since 2014.
