There most likely will not be any more updates to the eMacs according to the guy at the applestore that I talked to.

Apple is trying to make the iMac their consumer level product now

So none of the iBooks will be able to run the full features of Tiger??

I'm considering buy a Mac laptop but can't decide if I want the cheaper iBook or the Powerbook. If the iBook is going to be limited to what it can handle when Tiger gets released in just a few months I may just go with the more expensive Powerbook.

Can anyone elaborate on the shortcomings that the iBook might have, especially when it comes to Tiger?? Or is it too early and these presumptions are too premature to hold water??

Hmm, I just read that whole page about the Core Image feature in Tiger. Hmm...They were talking about "next generation" videocards and they showed a picture of the DLP nVidia Videocard. So, does that mean that none of the PowerBook's, iBook's, iMac's, eMac's, and some PowerMac's videocards won't be able to support it? What's the lowest you can go in videocards that can be counted as "next generation"?

At the bottom of the page <http://www.apple.com/macosx/tiger/core.html> there's a list of supported graphics cards. A quick glance looks like the new macs support Tigers "core image", whereas my rev A powerbook will not. There's also a note about a certain amount of backwards compatability.

well not everyone actually needs core image. its a very nice feature for image/video editors (reduces render needs), but for avarage consumer (ibook is targeted for those) it has no real meaning.
as for the tiger its best when it runs on G5. it is ment for G5 CPU. 32 bit G4 can not handle the full potential of tiger, but it still will be better then panther.
I em not sure, but i think ATI card in powerbooks can handle core image
