I just purchased a new 500gb seagate barracuda, along with a Smart-Drive mac-supported external enclosure. After assembly, I plugged it in only to find the dreaded "this disc is not readable" message. I go to the Initialize... menu, but I'm presented with no options to perform service on it. Finally, I got TechTools Pro and ran some tests. It informed me that the external hard drive was fully operational and in working order. Even still, I cannot manage to get my Mac to read the HD.

Any suggestions?

P.S. I'd love to try Disc Warrior, but frankly I don't have the cash for that venture at this time.

It lists both the internal HD equipped at purchase, and the new external hard drive, including its space and capacity. When I highlight the external, the only options at top that it gives me are New Image, Info, and Eject. The options in the middle and out for the most part, but it does allow me to Erase while installing Mac OSX drives on it.

Edit: That's all I needed to do. I feel like a prize idiot, but I'm glad that's all it was. I just needed to Erase and install the drives onto it to make it readable. Problem solved.

Glad you got it.
