Ok, the two platforms, Pc and Mac, handle sharing a little differently. On the PC you need to set what you want to share before anyone can actually share it. On the Mac you just turn on the sharing option, put in the restrictions you want and share.

Now if you open the prefs pane and select 'sharing' and select the 'Services' tab on this page you will get a box in the middle with a selection that reads "Windows Sharing". If you click this line to highlight it, right underneath the box it shows how a Windows user can access your Mac, usually something like //localhost/rickb or your IP address //192.168.0.101/rickb. Plug these into your browser on your PC and you should be set.

Also, if you have a .mac account that includes the iDisk feature, you can download iDisk for Windows that works pretty much the same way on the PC that it does on the Mac. Just sign into your .mac account and you can share your iDisk between computers. Makes it a little easier instead of having to search around for stuff on each machine.

You might try Sharepoint http://www.hornware.com/sharepoints/ I have never used it but it does seem to be highly thought of. I have a copy on the off chance I have a need but so far it has not come up. Rating on VersionTracker

As far as still being able to connect... As near as I can figure Samba is running using xinetd. With the share stopped can you open Network Utility, choose port scan, and scan "localhost"? If 139 netbios-ssn comes up then you have a problem. If it does not come up then why they can still connect is a little more confusing. Do you have the firewall active?

EDIT: And what version of Windows is your PC?
