Many apps of that vintage are not going to specifically state whether they are 32-bit or 64-bit. If the system requirements say that the program is supported by 10.6.8 it will probably work. It has been a while since I needed to do this but I think many apps of that vintage supported the following procedure to put themselves in 32-bit mode:

1. Quit the application if it is running.
2. Right-click the application's icon and select Get Info from the drop down menu.
3. Check the box that says Open in 32 bit mode.
4. Launch the application

Make sure you select the application icon and not an alias.

Many apps handle the 32 bit/64 bit question on the fly without user intervention. Are there specific problems you are having with this?

In the old saying ~ something does not compute.

An iMac 4.1 is a Summer 2001 p urple oriiginal shape iMac which cannot run Snow Leopard as OS X.6.8 is an Intel machine install only. The first Intel iMac, the 2GHz model, is actually 7.1. Nothing Windows will run on it as the process for doing so on an old iMac is simply too slow.

I thought the iMac 4.1 was the first Intel iMac from 2006.

What I've now done is put Windows 7 on as well that runs good again 32bit.

How old do you want to try…??

You could start here:
http://vintagemacmuseum.com/resources/mac-software/
and
http://www.oldapps.com/mac

There was one for just much older Power PC apps but I can't find it or recall the name.
Try with a google search and I assume you have Rosetta installed with your SL 10.6.8 for them to work.
