NAS storage for Time Machine

Been lookingat a mates machine, and he has Time Machine backups going to an external USB drive.

Can Time Machine be set up to use a NAS box (FreeNAS)?

Here is more information on using an NAS.

It seems that FreeNAS supports iSCSI, so, with a bit of technical effort, you could use an OS X iSCSI client. Could be somewhat faster and lets you commit a specific amount of space, if you want.

Yes FreeNAS does have an iSCSI services available, as well as AFP (I think it is called) the Apple file sharing protocol.
