My new mac is slow

I bought my mac 3 months ago... first few weeks was very fast and I was very happy with the transition....but after that everything just became very slow... surfing the net takes at least 30 secs to 1 min to load and videos takes 15 or so minutes to load.

I have a Mac Os X (Snow Leopard) version 10.6.8... 4 GB... build 10K549.
My disk usage shows I have utilized 22 GB and 477 BG free space. System memory shows I have 2.70 GB free/478 MB wired/538 MB active/312 MB inactive and 1.30 GB used.

I have another computer that uses windows and I do not have this problem. Can anyone help please.

Open your Activity Monitor and observe what's going on. CPU usage, memory usage, application processes, and so forth. Look for heavy usage of the CPU and memory.

Applications -> Utilities -> Activity Monitor.app
