Hello,

My graphics card which was an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB has just burnt out and I've been told its a common fault with these cards. So I am after a replacement card. I've been told to get a nVidia GeForce 8800GT 512MB as a replacement/upgrade. Is this worth getting or is there any cheaper reliable alternatives?

I would ideally like a Mac card so it boots like a mac should, but could be persuaded if the non Mac card is a lot cheaper.

Edit: It also needs to run duel screens.

My Mac pro is an early 2008 3, 1. Here are the specs;

Mac Pro "Eight Core" 2.8 (2008) Specs (Early 2008, MA970LL/A, MacPro3,1, A1186, 2180) @ EveryMac.com

Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Adam

The place to look is eBay.

I have looked on eBay, but I'm struggling with which one to buy, not where to get it from. :)

Should have made this clear in the original post. There was no mention that you knew where to buy ;)

What's your max. budget for the card?

Well I thought that was implied when I asked for alternatives, maybe it wasn't obvious. :)

The card I was suggested to buy I can get for £130 off eBay, so that's my maximum price I suppose, anything more and I'll just go for that one I think. :)

Oh one thing I haven't mentioned is that I need it to run duel screen. By the looks of it the ati radeon 5870 will do duel screen, but would you say this is a better buy than the nVidia GeForce one I mentioned?

The 5770 or 5870 Harry suggested are better cards (5870 much better) than an 8800. But I'm pretty sure both cards are going to cost a good bit more than a max.budget of £130 will allow. The 5870 is usually 2x the price of the 5770.

Original Mac Pro video cards are not inexpensive.
