More questions - external drive

More questions....have a WD External drive that I used with my PC for backup, plus had Idrive cloud backup. Have been able to pull everything I need from Idrive and now want to clean off the WD external drive. Can't figure out what app to use to view, and to reformat the external drive.

To answer your question:

Open Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility.

Format the external drive Mac OS Extended Journaled (HFS+) GUID scheme. Name the drive at the same time.

OK, the window in disk utility pops up and shows me the drive and some info about it but I can't seem to do anything else to it.
