Adobe evangelist lashes out at Apple over iPhone 4.0
AppleInsider | Adobe evangelist lashes out at Apple over iPhone 4.0
Changes in Apple's iPhone 4.0 developer agreement have sparked passionate outrage from a Flash evangelist which was so intense that Adobe redacted some of his blog comments.

And here is the original blog that helped fuel this discussion.
The Flash Blog Apple Slaps Developers In The Face
It's a nice read if you can laugh at the idiot who wrote this. He even ended the blog by saying "Go screw yourself Apple".
And at the end of the blog is this:
"Comments disabled as I’m not interested in hearing from the Cupertino Comment SPAM bots."
I think this guy need a serious perscription of calm down pills. He's pretty much all worked up over nothing.

Another rather unbiased take on the whole flash thing. It's a nice read.

Good article, Steve Jobs made it very clear the other day, That flash is not going to happen. It seems like the topic of Flash these days has become so polarized, It's like trying to talk Religion & Politics with people.

This is back to the same point I've made for a long time.

It is not up to the OS developers to insure that "every" piece of software out there can be run in the OS, it is up to the software developers to make sure their software can be run in the OS. Sometimes, that may mean starting over.

I particularly like this:
Of course, the reality is that content for mobiles and desktop system and multitouch tablets simply can't be delivered by a "one size fits all" platform...

which has been the issue with all the netbook / tablet makers to this point.

It's time for the company that sells some of the most expensive software on the planet to step up to the plate.

And it can be done. ABC's new iPad friendly site is not only tremendous looking, but already noticeably faster on the iPad than hulu is on my 3 Ghz quad core HTPC.

A quote I read from a comment on another website about this same topic.

Byte Magazine said it best back in 1994: "Indeed, it would not be an exaggeration to describe the history of the computer industry for the past decade as a massive effort to keep up with Apple". That sentiment is even more true today than when was originally written.

And I think that quote is so true it's not funny. And I think everyone else chucks a tantrum when their method of keeping up with Apple is just no good. Just like flash is - no good.

**********

And this article is a nice read too
What a Bad Week It's Been for Apple's Adversaries

It basically said everyone that is not Apple need to step up to the plate, pull their socks up and start producing some quality products or they will eventually just be washed under the carpet and steamrolled by the Apple juggernaut. In the 90's it was Microsoft. And in the 10's I think it's Apple.

So if I was a developer I would bend over backwards to make Apple like me. Cause I'm sure Apple's platform is where the real money is to be made.

What gets me a little overworked here is that Flash does not work properly in Safari on my Mac. I downloaded it for Safari, to find out that I need to run 32 bit mode Safari...um, isn't it already 32 bit in SL, or 64 bit? Adobe gave me instructions on how to run 32 bit, but their instructions don't match anything in Safari.

Sorry. My rant. I like playing certain online games...

Yeah, I have to say, anything related to this shouldn't be considered Apple's fault. I can see their side of the situation. They want to deliver a quality product, with quality being long battery life and low cpu usage.

If your customers are dissatisfied with your product, you don't throw a fit until they use it, anyway. You improve it to where it's a more seductive product.

I don't have a problem with flash, myself. I don't rely on my battery all day, but when I am using my MBP unplugged, and I'm messing around with flash to kill time, it reduces my battery, which is supposed to be like 7 or 8 hours, to right around 2 hours. It KILLS the time my battery runs. I don't care, because I don't need to spend 7 hours killing stick figures, but I can see how it matters to alot of people.

They need to polish their product, or maybe even consider moving on to the next thing.

I think the post on Daring Fireball explained it best. So long as 3rd party toold and SDKs are controlling things (whether it be Flash, .Net or something else) the quality of software will NEVER be as good as natively written apps. Even worse, new hardware features on future iPhones won't get taken advantage of until the 3rd party implements them in their tools... so iPhone 4 users will get no benefit until Adobe puts the new APIs in their software.

You only have to look at the mess CS4 was, or how slowly Intuit and others were to adopt Cocoa to see where this will lead... to mediocrity.

One thing that I've yet to see mentioned anywhere regarding banning Flash on the iPhone is that Apple has a vested interest in ensuring apps don't drain the battery. If their devices drain faster than intended/advertised, no one is going to blame the developer of the apps they are using. They will blame Apple, and needlessly servicing the batteries on these devices because the root problem is flash-based apps is quite expensive.
