Hey!
I need some help connecting to the internet through my wireless linksys router (wrt54g). I called my internet provider and they said that the router isnt picking up the motorola modem and therefore i have to call Linksys. Linksys tells me they need 30 dollars to help me since the router is a bit old.
Here are a few details:

-I can connect to the internet directly through the modem via ethernet.
-I can't connect wirelessly or directly with the linksys.
-My macbook tells me it is connected to the internet via airport and ethernet via the Linksys router. The page starts to load and then fails after 20 seconds.
-I changed the IP address of the router from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.1 just in case the modem and router were conflicting. I also restarted and refreshed everything.

What the f is wrong?!

Thanks so much!
Ben

Is this a new router, or have you always been able to connect to it through a PC?

Um, I found it in a box in the corner of the room haha
I'm pretty sure it was used with my grandma's old PC laptop.

It just maybe incompatible with the mac. I bought 2 routers, both new, and neither I found out will work with my Mac. I went with the Airport Express, and it worked from the get go with zero problems. I love the wireless connection to my printer too.

Any 802.11 router should be fine, it's just misconfigured.

Did you install the router properly? Usually you have to configure it for setup when you buy it out of the box. There is always a cd that comes with it.

Start with all devices powered off (power unplugged). Power on the modem and allow it to initialize for 45 seconds. Power on the router while holding the reset button in at the back. Continue holding for 30 seconds and release. Boot the Mac, then try to connect to the router's config page using the default username, password and IP. Make sure the router got an IP from the modem and then configure the wireless security and settings. It should be fine.

See my post above. Your router hasn't picked up the modem's config yet. Do exactly what I described in my last post, that should take care of it.
