Since updating to Yosemite my Macbook Pro Retina seems to be 'loosing' RAM whilst logged on. I start with approx 5.6gb out of 8gb but it runs down to currently 424.50mb. Why?

If everything is working properly, you're probably good to go and have no memory problems - unless you're trying to do some heavy RAM hungry graphics stuff, and 8GB RAM may be pushing the limits.

Yosemite uses and displays memory use differently and basically, empty or unused RAM is useless as it's not even being used.

Best way to check is to use the RAM Pressure graph in the Activity Monitor, if Green you are all good.

Activity Monitor's Help will provide you with some basic info and how Yosemite uses the installed memory. Or do some web searching if you want more info. ;)
