My 250gb hard-drive is showing only 203gb as the capacity and having only 159gb free to use. I had windows set on bootcamp, but that had 90gb for it. I never noticed this until today. I think I might have done something wrong some time ago and just noticed. Where did the other, almost 50gbs, go?

When I click on 'Get Info' on the hard-drive, it shows
Capacity:203.88, and
Available:159.03.

It almost seems like there is a partition or something on my hard-drive, but bootcamp or disk utility doesn't show anything.

Anyone have some advice? I have a macbook pro uni 15" with SL-1062.

Another question too if you don't mind, what is that kernal_task root that is using up so much memory? I am always left wondering why loading up pictures and editing them takes so long because I actually run out of free memory, even though I have 4gigs!

You can download the free Grand Perspective and see if the hidden space is on this partition.

Otherwise, I'd suggest opening Disk Utility and see if there is another partition you've forgotten about.

I noticed the same problem with my MBP a while ago. What i did was load up Disk Utility from my Leopard Operating system disks and repaired the HDD partition and when i loaded back into OSX all my HDD space was there.
I previously had a Boot Camp partition that i think caused the error.

Hope this helps

I think I might be having the same problem as you, as you can tell by my previous post, my drive seems to be corrupt.

are you using disk utility on the Install disks or inside the OS, Cause it makes a difference.

This was from the disk utility from the OS, not from the cd disk. What difference is there?

Using Disk Utility from the installer DVD will let you repair errors, not just verify the disk.

oh, yeah. I thought it let you know what the errors were or something. I have to put the disk in to repair it, does that erase the drive, or does it repair it while keeping everything intact?
