[QUOTE="chas_m, post: 1637823"] The Mac App Store works fine on 10.6.8. I know because I have a machine running it. Based on your saying that this is a now eight-year-old mid-2007 Macbook, I cannot recommend any OS upgrade and would suggest you stay at 10.6.8 for the very short remaining time you will want to own that machine. You can still buy a retail install disk of Snow Leopard (10.6.x) from Apple for $20. I strongly suggest that you do so. Yes, you will need it for the new HD install. This is a very old machine, and while still fine for a few things, it no longer receives security updates and is very RAM- and graphics-limited which is going to severely hobble you trying to do very much on it.
