I already searched on this topic and came up with nothing. I am trying to use the note taking feature in Word for Mac. I have a Macbook with the built in mic and when I open one of those note pad documents and try to record, in the upper left corner it says "no device." what do I need to do to get Word to recognize my mic? Thanks.

Go to Word -> Preferences -> Note Recording

Are any of the settings there selected? (e.g. Quality, Audio Type...)

Also, go to Utilities -> Audio MIDI Setup

and make sure the Built-In Microphone is selected.

Does the mic work in any other programs (e.g. Audacity, Skype)?

It sounds like something in your installation of Word is corrupt. If your mic works on other applications and not in Word, the problem is clearly with that application.

You may want to try reinstalling Word/Office to see if that resolves the issue.
