Messenger / Adium Crash & Won't Open

Hey ppl...

I have just reformatted my mac (powerbook g4) downloaded the latest adium and messenger, when i click to open both, they just don't open.

The zoom animation kicks in as if it is about to open, the dock stretches to make room for the icon, but then simply re-closes and nothing happens.

If i move the icon to the dock and click it there, it pulses once, then stops without opening.

Have tried rebooting, deleting / reinstalling but no joy.

Any ideas?

Hello Sikwondo,

Why do you need both Adium and Messanger! Adium should take care of Messanger.. NO?!

There might be some kind of conflict in the software that is causing the issue. My only suggestion would be to Delete both, completely, even the .dmg files. Redownload one a time. Lets say Adium first. Install that and Run it.

Alos might be a good idea after you delete to reboot the system once before you download it over again.

Thkd for your reply. I have tried what you suggested before, deleted all trace and then re-installed, but no joy.

You're right I don't need messenger, just Adium really, but can't get either to work

Can anyone help, would it be to do with any sharing preferences or anything?

I have re-formatted again, and it still doesn't work - I never had this problem before reformat.

I agree, uninstall both files and redownload, then reinstall. I use a great app called AppZapper (it eliminates any loose files when uninstalling). I'm also wondering why you're installing MSN, Adium allows you to run aim, yahoo, icq, msn, etc... ? good luck

Hi, can you tell us what happens when you try to launch Adium from

Macintosh HD -> Applications

Also what version of Mac OS are you using.

Adium X 1.0 requires OS X 10.3.9 or greater. If you're using OS X 10.2, you'll want Adium X 0.89.1. Adium X 0.88 and later are Universal applications which run natively on both PowerPC- and Intel-based Macintosh computers.
