Is it just me, but recently my browser views of the mac-forums message windows have taken to adding a column with various red topic bars on the right side of the page that squashes the message text window.

I don't recall changing any view options nor can I find any way to change the view and get rid of the right column.

This is what I now see:

Anyone know how I can change or get rid of this right side column???

Thanks,

- Patrick

Very appropriate time for your post Patrick, as we were discussing that elsewhere in another thread. It looks like non-staff members don't get the option to collapse the right sidebar since Staff can see it and everyone else in that thread kept saying we were high. :)

The sidebar itself has been around for a little while and isn't specific to you, it contains a number of ads which are all being hidden by your ad-blocking software, so what's left is just the boxes and titles.

We need to look into why the collapse button isn't visible to you all.

You should be seeing the little >> icon as seen here..

Ashwin, I do remember the collapse button being there previously. Could it have something to do with Catalina?

Thanks Ashwin, and definitely nothing being used here that could make one high. :Smirk:

Definitely no such icon being shown either, nor any option in my ad blocker, even with the site being Whitelisted.

The OS shouldn't interfere with this functionality IMHO. I'm on Catalina on all of my devices,

I just created a regular user account and I don't see the collapse button either.

And it seems that it never will until you get established as a mac-forums admin user, unless something gets changed somewhere, somehow.

At least this way, my message window is a reasonable width with a normal sized window and the text wraps properly, which it normally does anyway, compared to some other vBulletin listserve boards that don't. ie: https://www.ehmac.ca/

I'm wondering if the adjustment arrows are appearing for any of our "Premium Members"?

And where is this "other thread" hiding I wonder???

I haven't come across one.

Thanks Charlie, I hadn't really seen that thread but I sure had to laugh at some of the suggestions to get rid of the red bars in the right-hand column. In fact, I almost choked on one of them. :Smirk:

I'm a premium member, Charlie, and as stated elsewhere, I reported this loss of the >> 3 days ago.

It would seem, from those posting, that it affects all members of whatever "status" except Admins and maybe some Moderators.

I guess I must have missed it, or if not, I didn't have a clue as to what you were talking about or referring to. Easy to miss or ignore when it's not even showing on my browser page. :D

Thanks to Ashwin's post showing the "collapse button" (post #2), it makes it easier to know what people are talking about for those who might have the option to see it.

Huh...never even paid attention to this, but I'm usually on a 27-32 inch monitor when using this forum, so I guess it never appeared "squished" to me. I imagine if you were on a 13" screen, this would have been quite annoying, so glad it got fixed!

Thanks for the notice Nick, I don't think I would have noticed otherwise except for the lack of the red List Column on the right which I can now show or hide with the use of the double vertical chevrons collapse button icon which is now showing for me.
