Hi,

I recently bought a new iMac which is working great, running Yosemite 10.10.4

In the menu / status bar (top-right near the clock, volume, spotlight icons etc) there was circular type of icon which when I clicked on it showed the status of CPU usage, memory usage and disc space etc. Kind of like activity monitor but much less fussy and more convenient.

Annoyingly I stupidly pressed "quit' when I was using it. It disappeared from my Status bar and I don't know what it was called to get it back there.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Considering Macs don't come with something like that by default it's something you installed.
Check your Applications folder and/or System Preferences. Probably something like iStat or similar.

Thanks but no, there isn't a third party app that I can see, I'd already checked for iStat and the like.

Weirdly it was there on the status bar as default when I first opened up my iMac...?

There are several apps which have a menu bar icon that shows stats such as hard drive space, CPU usage, etc. The one that Craig mentioned "iStat Menus" is the most popular but it's not a free app. The Mac App Store lists several other apps which do the same thing. It could be that you had a test or trial version loaded of one of those apps. In any event, it didn't get put there by itself. ;)

Sound a bit like App Tamer. below is a shot of mine in action. If that's it look in applications folder and restart it.:D

Thanks guys for all the replies. It looked a bit like app tamer but that's not it.

I must've downloaded the app inadvertently as an add-on to something unconnected - maybe an expander, or Clean My Mac 3?

Lastly, there is the possibility it is a startup item so shutting down and starting up again might just return it to the menu bar.

Ok I solved it. It was CMM3. I opened it and bingo, the thing I've been banging on about is there in the Status Bar. If you click on the CMM icon it opens out that info.

I know Mac aficionados hate CMM but I've never had a problem with it - I ran it on my old MBPro 2007 through two OS incarnations and the old girl is still working like a dream.

Anyhow thanks to all for their help!

Not all of us are against CMM, I've been using it since it came out with never a problem and I often find myself defending it on this forum.
Like any tool it's how you use it and CMM has some unique functions which I really like.
