They wouldn't fit with heat spreaders. I don't think I've ever seen laptop modules with heat spreaders.
You know the iMac (Intel models) uses the smaller sized modules most commonly found in laptops, right?

i ran a test at crucial.com and it showed for 4gb it would come out to a little over 100.00
so, i was looking for something a little cheaper on newegg. so that's where i ran into the issue of desktop/laptop
iMac 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (20-inch) MA876LL Desktop/PC .

i should be compatible to buy ANY ram that is DDR2 667 PC2-5300..but for a laptop, correct?

According to the MA876LL part #, that's the current iMac model, is this correct? If so, it required 800MHz RAM, not the 667MHz like the older models.

No worries then, you need the 667MHz RAM.
I suggest OWC because they have a lifetime warranty like Crucial and they buy back your old RAM.
Newegg Search- I would only avoid the last one seeing it has the heat sink.
If you really want to max it to the limit, you need low latency RAM like this stuff- G.SKILL.
