Hi. I plan to get the new 15 inch 2.4 GHz MacBook Pro, but I have a question about the memory. I know the base unit comes with 2GB of memory (1x2). I was wondering if any of the two are soldered in, or if they're both completely removable.
A follow-up question on the same topic: can anyone tell me why there is such a massive difference in price between Apple's memory upgrade for my MacBook Pro and, say, Crucial's? Crucial charge £49.34 for 2 x 1Gb DDR2 PC2-5300, while Apple charge a staggering £240 (with free shipping, whoopi-doo) apparently for exactly the same thing.
What would I be missing out on if I went for Crucial's solution instead of Apple's? Would it work the same? Would it void my warranty (which is nearly up anyway)?
I have 1GB x 2, right now...are there 4 slots so I could just stick in two more 1GB sticks....three slots (stick in a 2GB) or are there only two slots. If there were 2 slots I'd have to buy 2GB x 2.
Regarding timsk's question: You're not missing out by not buying RAM directly from Apple. Replacing it on your own with another company's RAM doesn't void the warranty either.
so the mac book pros come with 2, 1 gig sticks correct? so if i wanted to get 4 gigs, sadly i would have to buy 2 2 gigs, nice move. Good money maker though i guess.
Here is a link to the newer macbook memory config options, lists details, more than usuall.
